EDM#76 Draw some flowers (by Alex)

(click picture to zoom in)

Another EDM attempt on a single Daisy. I took a picture of it during my visit to the hydro power plants in Weser last week, and I thought, I just had to draw it. Even though the EDM challenge says "Flowers" so I guess my chibi sketches count as well ^^ I pressed a little too hard on my color pencils, and broke the lead a few times. And I also realized that I've been using a lot of blue and greens. My next color pencil drawing would be a lot of red and oranges :)
The picture is not so clear, so I might take a better one and repost tomorrow. I hope you like it.

Thank you all so much for your comments on my Rachel Weisz sketch. I'll try harder next time to increase the level of similarities. I am so glad you all liked it, as much as I enjoyed doing it.

  1. I love this!!! You did a terrific job with the flower and those leaves. The blues and greens are a perfect complement to the yellows in the flower and the sunlit leaves. There is so much depth in this and I love that glow on the daisy!

  3. Alex, your sketches are always so engaging...I think your composition is right on. On a different subject, have you ever done any sketches of the Castles in Europe? My sister in law is from Gavelsburg,Germany. I love the castle photos they send back.

  4. I really love the contrasting colors. The darker colors make the flower really pop~ <3

Keep up the great work, Love, and I really enjoy your work. I think my mom would have absolutely loved this, since she loved flowers so much. I would like to hang something like this in a frame in our house. :)

Which brand of coloured pencils are you using, Alex? The colours are so rich.

  6. Ann, thanks! ^^ You do know that your color pencil work is the one that's inspired me to do this right?

Winna, :) words from a master of observation like you means encouragement in every single bit. *bows*

Deborah, Vielen Dank! I would love to visit some nice castles here someday and take really good pictures of them and work on them too. Thanks for the wonderful idea ^^

Sweets, yeah ^^ I would draw lots of stuff in bigger scale and put them up in the walls when we get our own house.

Aveen, Thanks again for the compliment :) I am using one of the cheapest Aquarell colored pencils, it's called VAN DYKE(12 colors)by Eberhard Faber, and Edding 1340 Brush pens(10 colors) usually used for Manga, and a green office highlighter marker ^^ I always try to use the cheapest tools I could get.

  11. I love this. The myriad of colours and how you've so carefully applied them. There looks to be such a lot of work going on here.
The daisy is the star of the picture though and the background allows its highlights to glow.

  17. You have a wonderful way with color. The daisy itself almost looks like a photograph. Awesome.

  18. Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement. I am glad you like it ^^ It wasn't easy doing the colored pencil on an unstable table :D Maybe that helped in a way too you'll never know.

  19. The colours in this one are just magnificent. I love the way you've paid attention to the tones, and got those strong darks. This drawing grabs me more than anything I've seen for a while.
