My friend FuiPing who just got married has a strange humor. She loves taking funny pictures ^^ She went to Bali for her honeymoon not too long ago and took a picture with a giant bird stone statue, she angled herself in such a way that the picture would turn out like the bird is eating her head. I thought that's hilarious! =)

It's spring time and a lot of 2-wheeled enthusiasts are riding on the road feeling the wind and enjoying the nature. I don't own a motorcycle, and I don't know how to ride. But boys will always be boys, I love motorcycles ^^
As Iceman told me we're doing motorcycles this week, I got excited! So I thought I'd want to have a little "warm-up" session and keep the blood pumping. I drew a Suzuki 1300 Hayabusa. Tanna saw it and told me it's very similar to the GhostRider I drew 5 years ago for a friend as his birthday present. So here they are, old and new =) LET'S RIDE!

Super Bowl Ice Art

I haven't been posting for more than 2 weeks again, but I haven't stop thinking about doing art or anything related to it. I recently helped the iceman designing his new company logo. I can't really post that up yet until they have registered it, so I am going to hold that one up first.

That aside, I had been doing a lot of ice related art work too. I didn't really do the physical carving, or designed the entire piece by myself, but I worked on the motives and general shapes and designs, which usually would turn heads. Here are some we did for Superbowl party, which the Saints won(woot woot!)This is our Who Dat alligator. They serve shrimps in its teeth.

That's our Homer Simpson Luge. You pour drinks on the top and place your glass at the bottom for the drinks.

We'll be working on something that has Motorcycles for the theme within the next couple of weeks. I haven't done anything on that yet but I've got so many ideas in my head and I am so excited of how things will turn out.

Lately I've been obsessed with shoes, I am not sure why. But I came across these weird looking ones from Vibram(I am not kidding, they do exists and they cost $75-$125 per pair depending on the models) called the FiveFingers that encourage people to go barefoot while not hurting themselves when they're running outdoor. I've even tried on a pair in a shop during a trip to New Orleans last Friday and I must say, it's a strange but nice feeling. The grip you get from them is almost gecko-like, I think these would make the best presents for Ninjas in the old days. The soles are really thin so don't expect any cushy feeling when you're walking over pebbles or gravels. I am not going to get a pair as they're not within my budget. But if you love walking around the house barefoot, and feel like doing the same outside but not wanting to get hurt from stepping on sharp objects, and not worried about getting looks or attention from the public, then these would be your best bet to date(but they are not available in green...yet).
It's my 2nd full color pencils, I'm slowly getting used to them. The Moleskine Sketchbook can't take too much pressure from the pencils, I need to apply layers lightly. Thank you so much for all your comments and feedback on my last drawing. I realized that you don't need to fight for just one reason, so we can all fight for both glory AND survival..... plus many more ^^

Moleskine Large Sketchbook 5"x8"

While driving back from Baton Rouge to Lafayette, 2 cars skidded off the road because of heavy rain. I was listening to the radio, and all of the sudden I started to realize how many times they play the commercial of how joining the National Guard, the Army could pay for your college in full, and keeping people in mind at all time that college is indeed very expensive. The famous tagline will never be wiped off my mind "There's Strong, and then there's Army Strong". It makes me wonder if most of the brave souls fighting in the wars, are they really fighting because they want to defend the nation they love so much, or because if they don't they won't be able to afford to go to college and get the education they need to get a good job and make ends meet? And that what really goes through their minds when they are in the battlefield? Are they fighting for glory or for survival?
I grew up in an army camp. My dad was in the air force, my sister is still serving in the military because they paid for her medical degree, and yet I don't really know the answer to those questions above.
This is to all the people who are serving in the army.

I haven't done any water color painting for over a year, and I haven't painted trees for 7-8 years now. Thanks to my wife's housemate who prompted me to do so, I suddenly thought it was a good idea to fiddle around with the cheap Reeve's watercolor set I bought not too long ago, but however on the wrong kind of paper. It's entirely experimental but in a good way. I enjoyed doing it.
I wanted to create a plain background, and a tree in the foreground which contrasts it, so I changed the light source to see if that works, but it didn't. It looks more like you've taken a picture of a scenery with a powerful flash from the right instead.
Anyway, thanks for all your comments in my previous post. I really appreciate the thoughts, and that I am missed when I am inactive. Dan is right... the hearts grow fonder when you're far away or away for a while. ^^
Oh yeah, I've given this drawing to my wife's housemate, Mallory. Thanks for the idea!

It's been a while since I last posted, I apologize profusely. I had been trying to cope with my weekly schedule, which turns out to be non-routine, so it was hard to be to get myself to sit and draw around the same time everyday like I usually do. There's just so much going on with my new life right now that's why.
Now that I've realized I don't have a routine anymore, I figured that I'd just sketch and draw whenever I am able to no matter where I am. I drew this one today, 2 hours in the library, and another on the couch in my wife's apartment on campus lounging around with her and her housemates. Definitely feels like drawing in public too, and I am slowly getting used to the idea.
I am sorry I hadn't been able to visit all your sites looking at your drawings, I'll catch up I promise.

Lawrence is the Iceman, that's what everyone calls him here because if you need anything to do with ice, he's got the way to make them. He's also a good friend of my father-in-law, and he and I collaborated in an interesting project for my wedding reception, an entirely unique and personalized ice sculpture with the touch of asian and cajun cultures, my pencil, his ice, an interesting fusion. The result is as below:-It was fun designing it, and seeing it happening in 3D, and moreover, in ICE! It totally enhanced our wedding reception, made it even more unforgettable for us. A brief explanation on the design, The top block is lined with the Chinese character "Double Happiness" I arranged them in such a way that it would show more "t" and "A" because my name and Tanna's names' got a lot of A and t. The Fleur De Lis is of course Cajun's favorite symbol, and the bottom block was designed to show a solid foundation, with a lot of 45Degrees angle to reflect lights.

So here's my way of saying "Thank You!" to Mr. Lawrence and his wife Pam. I'll give it to him tomorrow morning, and hopefully he'll like it as much as I love his ice sculpture. Thanks again everyone for all your wishes, comments and feedback! I really appreciate them ^^

First of all, I want to wish everyone a belated HAPPY NEW YEAR and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I know it's late and all but things couldn't get any more hectic with wedding preparation and all the paperwork in the way. It's a major transition for me (and yes Raena, I am here ^^)
I've missed out all of your work, and I will soon have a lot of time to spare while waiting for the government to get things done before I could get employed. Hopefully during this time I'd be able to look through the 2 months of work that I've missed from you guys.

I drew this when I was in still in Germany, and it's the last drawing I did there and last year. I just didn't have anything to do while in the cramped hotel room, so I walked to the nearest McDonald's and ordered a major cup of coffee and started drawing in public for the 2nd time =)

Thank you so much everyone for all your comments for the cat I drew. I really miss you guys and I hope I am not forgotten.

This is my first drawing of a cat, and it too will be given away as part of the deal I've made. It can also be considered as my first sale perhaps, but I don't think of it that way. I was racing against time with this one(2-3hours), as I will have to settle a lot of things in this and perhaps next week as well, and I'll lose my internet connection in less than a week time so I might not be posting anytime soon.

I'd like to take some space here to thank everyone for your generosity, for visiting the site, for looking at my drawings, for leaving comments and for your precious time. Every little words every little gesture helps in keeping the motivation level up, and I am really glad that I've known so many wonderful souls from EDM. So here is the gift that I've been working on for the passed couple of weeks. It's a huge one and it is a gift for Sascha(the big guy in the front) and he's been one of the closest friends I have had in the whole 3 years I've been here in Germany. It's not the first drawing I did for him either, the first was a drawing of the cute version of Optimus Prime on the birthday card that I bought him. The names of the people from left to right starting from the bottom row are Frank, Alfred, Stefan, Sascha, Martin, Giacomo, Wolfgang, Thomas in his uniform, Marcus, Ralf, Bernd, and Heinz-Gerd.

He actually asked for this one... he said he wanted to have another drawing from me before I move away... he didn't specify anything, just something that's me. So I thought it'd be nice to draw faces of the boys I've been working happily with. I gave this to him this morning, I think he remained speechless for about a minute. So I asked him "were you expecting this?" and he was like "NEVER" and was smiling the whole time, like he won a trophy or something :) In my opinion, the best look ever, and that's also one of the reasons I love drawing in the first place, and that's the reason I gave all my drawings away prior to this year.

Thanks again for all your encouraging words and posts on my previous sketch. I am glad I could bring out the characteristics of Mandy Lane... it's a very twisted movie, but I love how the plot changed.

I am not sure if any of you have watched the movie, but I personally think that the movie is well directed. So it's just a quick sketch(took me 2 hours still) on my Moleskine of how I feel about the movie. Mandy Lane's character played by Amber Heard is both dark and innocent at the same time, and yet could have so much influence in people around her. So I am trying to experiment that with colors, I hope it works.

EDM#246 Draw something October (by Alex)

It's been a while since I my last EDM post, but this week's theme somehow made me think of something I usually would have in October when I am at home with my family. It's blueberry layered cake! It's my favorite kind actually, and my mom's and my birthdays are in October, so we'd normally have 2 cakes in the month, and one of them is always blueberry layered cake. I haven't had any for 3 years now since I started working here in Germany, but my co-workers usually would bring me out for something exotic. Last time it was TGIF in Oslo, Norway(yeah I know it doesn't sound exotic, but there isn't any TGIF in Germany), and this time maybe Mongolian buffet dinner somewhere in Cologne.

Thank you all for your comments on my previous post, and it's been fun doing things in colors again. Although I won't be having any blueberry cake in my mouth tomorrow, I'd consider this is the blueberry cake for myself in my heart(and on my Moleskine), Happy Birthday Alex! ^^

I've been listening to everyone, and I took Raena's advice of simply sketching a scene that I like from the movies that I've been watching. So I did just that, I was watching Live Free Die Hard 4.0, and that's the scene where Bruce Willis was leaping off a crashing F35 plane on the right, and after that I just drew something that resembles a face, and probably in flame or something, maybe he's angry, and he's not young too, I am not sure what I was drawing, but then perhaps I was inspired by the video game called Metal Gear Solid. I have never been a fan in that game but I thought the art was awesome. And then I just decided that I needed a lot of colors, so this messy piece is the result.
It's obviously doing a soul searching piece, I can't say I am happy nor I am not happy with it, it's just something that came up at that time, at that moment, out of randomness.

Thank you so much everyone for your encouragement, I really really appreciate them. I'll keep trying, and I'll try to isolate or channel my anxiety into my sketchbook, either way I know that I'll be fine. I am sorry that I've been ranting and caused worries.

I wanted to do this in color initially, but I was afraid that I'd mess it up real bad so I thought I'd play it safe. In the end, it looks kind of messed up anyway -___- So maybe I'll try it again with colors some other time. I also notice that I am getting tired relatively easy these days, that's why I haven't been able to draw more than I used to. I am going to say it's due to weather change, and it is getting a lot colder these days.
The picture was taken by a good friend of mine Douglas, who is an awesome professional photographer. You could find a lot of great subjects for sketching and drawing here. Unfortunately his blog is in Chinese. But we all know that picture says a thousand words right? ;)

If you notice that these two people are looking very similar, that's because they are actually one person :) just with different poses.
I always have problems drawing people that are dear to me because I am afraid that they won't like the result. I practiced with my niece and that now gave me a bit of confidence to draw the one I am marrying soon. She did mention that I never drew her, not because that I didn't want to, but it's because I didn't think I was good enough yet(I still don't feel that I am good enough actually). But a lot of things have been going on lately, and she's not in the best of her mood. So I took up the courage to give it a go and hope that it's able to life her spirit up a little and cheer her up a bit somehow.
Tanna, please be happy. I can't do much right now, but I hope I'm able to just put a smile on your face by drawing you. I love you ^^

Another drawing of my baby niece. She's wearing the dress I bought her from Zara in Cologne, and I am pretty sure she will not fit in the dress in a year time. But that of course won't stop me from getting her more dresses in the future ^^ Since I am pampering her forever, I am only getting good designers' stuff, stuff I could only dream of having when I was little(not that I knew what they were or if I would appreciate them anyway).
I took a little longer this time because I wasn't feeling too well these few days, maybe sleep deprived, I am not sure. But I am adding more steps this time because I couldn't do as much at one go, and I needed to rest almost every half an hour. Getting old maybe? -_-;;
And as I told Dan and Raena earlier that I would do something with my kneadable eraser. I didn't put a lot of effort in this one, but here's a skull ^^

Here's a drawing of my baby niece whom I absolutely adore. We are not that close because I am working in Germany, and she's in Malaysia, and I've only seen her twice in 2 years for no more than 4 weeks in total. She's 18 months old now, and growing up real fast. I am not sure when is the next time I'll be seeing her again, but I know that it won't be soon.
This is the first time I am drawing my family member, and I've got this pressure all the time telling me that I won't be able to do it well enough to their approval(and I still have that). But I really hope that they'll like it. And I'd like to tell everyone here that I love my family, I love my nephews and my niece, and I miss them a lot, and I am sorry that I've been away.

I will keep posting the steps, and this time it shows a lot of changes from one stage to another. The outline stage this round is more like japanese manga style I think ^^ And then the light shading stage was weird looking this time(usually I like this stage the most as things start to come alive). Yes, no kidding! His showbiz name is Alien Huang, and he's another famous Taiwanese singer, actor, and host. He also owns A.E.S(Alien Evolution Studio) clothing line in Taiwan. I watch the variety show (Entertainment 100%) a lot, which he co-hosts with Show Lo, so I was thinking that it would be nice to do a couple of FanArts of them by sketching them.

And I am glad that some steps shown in the course of sketching are being appreciated, so I will keep doing it and hopefully it'll be somewhat helpful to those who wish to do portrait sketching. Not that I am a pro or that I've attended any art school or classes(I really should take one someday), so I really don't know what's the right way or the wrong way, I just do it base on how I feel and whichever way that makes sense to me. I'd be grateful if you could give me some pointers if you see what I did wrong because I'd love to improve myself too ^^

Hands got a little stiff not sketching after more than a month. I just finished watching a Taiwanese drama series called "Hot Shot" and it's about basketball, and one of the main characters in the series is played by the all hilarious and talented host, singer, fantastic dancer, and clothing line owner(Brand: STAGE), SHOW LO. He's about my age but the level of success if obviously incomparable ^^

This is considered my "exercise" sketch, and you could see a lot of "laziness" in it, but I'll start working on something else soon. Thanks again for all you warm wishes and for liking my wedding invitation card design. I was having a lot of doubts, whether it'd be too chinese, whether it's not special enough etc. But I am so glad everyone of you approved :)

Yes it is final, and that's how it looks like ^^ The theme is Plum Flower, and main color is ivory and red. I've designed the borders and most of the elements myself, but I drew and vectorized everything myself using Inkscape(I love freeware!).
I've been away for a while now, but that's because I've been caught up with a lot of things that need to be planned properly ensuring a good and smooth transition.
I'll get back to my usual sketching very soon. Sorry for the wait, and thanks for your patience. I am very happy that everyone loves the picture of Gilwi =) He's such a pretty horse!

Just a quick post of Gilwi(I hope I spelled the name correctly), a cute horse of Sylvia, a wonderful co-worker of mine in Germany. She loves her horse a lot, and I was still thinking about drawing something with beautiful hair and she burned be a CD with pictures of her beautiful horse.
:) I got those picture 3 months before, and I just hadn't got time for it, with all the traveling and other sketches that I had to do first. So I am sorry Sylvia for taking this so long, Tanna loves this one too by the way as she loves horses.
I finally got to Louisiana, after getting stranded in Memphis for a night because of the tornado. I'm still trying to fix the broken clock in my body, and I need to fix by tomorrow because I'll need to get busy starting tomorrow for the whole week. I am hoping that I'll get more clues on how to proceed next with my life after the meeting with my lawyer on Tuesday in New Orleans. I've never been there and frankly I am looking forward to this day-trip. Wish me luck guys because I'll need a lot of it.

Yui, a 22 year old singer-songwriter, actress from Fukuoka, Japan. She has 3 albums, 1 compilation album, and 14 singles released to date. This is drawn from her compilation album cover called "My Short Stories"

This is just another attempt of a celebrity sketch, so Yui fans please don't get angry if you think it doesn't look at all like her, because I know it doesn't :) But I am showing the stages again, showing how it was done, I hope you like that.

Yeah, you might find the title weird, but the DDD stands for Dr. Dany's Daughter ^^ Dr. Dany is my boss, or was... but he's a great guy and by far the best boss I've ever had. He's got a couple of beautiful kids, and he's got pictures of them all over his office, so I thought I'd want to draw the youngest one because I like kids too. She might not look the same as she looked in the picture, still I hope he likes it.

I am doing another step by step, so that people could see how I worked my way through, and perhaps give me some pointers too.

I'd wanted to do this since last week, but I was of course busy with my own wedding invitation card project. But that's been completed, so I'm back into sketches and drawings.

I must say, I grew up with MJ's musics. I remember when I was 6, I was obsessed with the Beat It video, and was always trying to copy his moonwalk. Thriller scared the skin off me during that time, and then Smooth Criminal has and will probably always be my favorite video from MJ.

Despite all the ups and downs in his life, he's genuinely a great performer and without a doubt one of the best entertainer of all time. Wherever you are now MJ, you'll always be remembered as the one who made Moonwalk known to the world. Rest in peace MJ.

This is pretty much what I did, and I ended up having what's on the right of the page as part of the card design at the back. I am glad I didn't have to go through so many rounds of it because I still had to work on the layout and all the stuff which I spent most of my time doing and fiddling with.
I'd say the card design is completed, but I won't post it up yet, not at least until it's actually printed out, and then we could perhaps compare the printed version with the one on computer. In the meantime I'll try to get back to the usual sketches and drawings.

As I told a few people that I'd be busy designing my own Wedding Invitation card for these couple of weeks, and that I'd also try to post something each week at least.. so here it is ^^

I am still working on the card, and I am planning to create several layouts so that we could see which is better and pick the right one. I'm still very new with the Open Source software "Inkscape" which I am using. It's not as powerful as Adobe Illustrator, but hey...it's free and it gets the job done :) So it might take another week or two, but I hope you'll have patience. I promise that once it is final and when the printing done, I'll post it up and share with everybody here. And in the meantime I'll just post things that I won't be using on the card. I am not using this because it's too cartoony.

Thank you so much for your comments and encouraging words in my previous post. James and Carine really like it, and they said they'll slot it into their wedding dinner presentation, so it will be in a big screen and my parents will be there too :) I am really happy that even I can't make it there, some part of me is still going to be present. Thanks James and Carine, and may you both silly bunnies live happily ever after just like in the fairy tales.

Another EDM attempt on a single Daisy. I took a picture of it during my visit to the hydro power plants in Weser last week, and I thought, I just had to draw it. Even though the EDM challenge says "Flowers" so I guess my chibi sketches count as well ^^ I pressed a little too hard on my color pencils, and broke the lead a few times. And I also realized that I've been using a lot of blue and greens. My next color pencil drawing would be a lot of red and oranges :)
The picture is not so clear, so I might take a better one and repost tomorrow. I hope you like it.

Thank you all so much for your comments on my Rachel Weisz sketch. I'll try harder next time to increase the level of similarities. I am so glad you all liked it, as much as I enjoyed doing it.

My 3rd celebrity sketch ^^ I've always liked Rachel Weisz because of her roles in a lot of films, and of course the comical role in The Mummy is probably which people remember the most. This picture is taken from the movie "Definitely, Maybe" and I thought her hair is gorgeous.
I've spent more than 3 hours just detailing the hair, which is the biggest part of the sketch I think. An hour before that for the outlines and rough details, and another hour in the end finalizing, and adding my silly touches as always. I had a lot of fun despite the time-consuming processes.
Tools used, 0.5mm and 0.7mm HB mechanical pencils, 2H and 4H wood cased pencils, and 6B pure graphite pencil, and of erasers of course! ^^
Thank you so much for all the compliments on the Panda. I'm so glad you like it, and I hope you like this one too. I'm showing the steps again.

Another EDM post and an attempt on drawing fur/hair of possibly my favorite animal since I'm posting the 3rd panda now in this blog ^^ I know that there's still a lot to be improved, and I am starting to see why I should be using a needle as a stylus to get more natural strokes, rather than just the tip of my 0.5mm mechanical pencil. I am starting to love my Faber-Castell 6B Pure Graphite PITT Pencil. It makes it so much easier to do the dark areas.
My deepest apology to the grainy picture as I took this with my compact camera at night. I'll re-post the picture again when I am able to snap it with natural daylight(or maybe it's time for me get an SLR camera ^o^)

Departures won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film at the 2009 Oscars. A friend recommended it on Facebook, and posted a link to one of the tunes in the soundtracks(Beautiful Death), and while listening to that and browsing at the same time, something strange happened... My eyes started to become watery and tears started to roll. So I decided to watch the movie, and at first it was more like a comedy, because it was so funny... but of course, that part short-lived, and then you just need to watch it to know what's going on. ^^
It's a good movie, it's touched me, and inspired me to draw this picture. I have never put so much emotion in a piece of sketch before, but I was even listening to the soundtracks while drawing this. but I don't think that you're able to feel it because it doesn't transfer that well. But please, if you have a chance, look for it and watch the movie, and make sure Kleenex is always within reach ;)

A quick pencil sketch of Sheon, an old friend of mine I knew since I was 13. Sheon loves the German Football/Soccer Team, and to show his support, he spends fortune getting those expensive Football/Soccer jerseys. ^^
Sheon is a funny guy, he sent me a couple of pictures of himself months ago and asked me to draw his "handsome" face :p So I took different parts of him and combined them into one sketch. His smile is actually from another picture, his eyes are from another and what not ^^ So this is Frankenstein Sheon! :D

The idea came from a a really good friend Erik, who's working on a book right now. I really hope that it gets published despite the fact that the book will be in Norwegian(people in Norway are so lucky!)
Erik showed me a sketch of this character Sophie who's a teen fire elemental, a peasant daughter, and just figured out that she could make small flames popping out of her fingertips, and at the same time her hair floats and goes up in the air. He drew her practicing in her room before going to sleep every night and he drew that excellently. So I asked if I could contribute some artwork ideas too, and he gave be the below:-
Sophie trains in the nearby forest, the clearing has a huge boulder, and small stream running through it. She likes to sit on top of the boulder in a sort of a dip that makes the rock looks super-comfy.
So the result is somewhat weird to me too and the composition is absolutely OUT -_- I didn't know what to do with coloring Sophie because I don't know what's her favorite color, what's her eye-color, her hair color, or even how she looks like and so on.. so I decided to do this half-pencil, half-watercolor+ink+highlighter markers combination. I hope Erik likes it too ^^

P.S: Thank you so much for the compliments in my previous post(the Gun) and no, I don't own a gun :) It was a sketch from a picture.

Okay, so this is my first post on this blog, and I am by no means as talented as the other co-authors on this blog, but since this is an art blog mainly, I decided I'd post here, rather than on my other blog. So, this is my phone, a Sony Ericsson. It's pink. I love it. I attached a Hello Kitty charm on it for something special. I have never colored any drawing before, and I can see I have a long way to go about before I learn where shades and shines go. Regardless, I hope ya'll enjoy it.

I am sorry it took me so long to post. I hadn't been drawing at all since Good Friday, as I was in Brussels visiting a good friend of mine. Right after that I had to go to Oslo for two-days meeting, and then I came back sick. I've been sick for almost a week now but I managed to do a little sketch still while dragging along(I get tired so easily now)
This would be considered a messy post I suppose, since I almost fell asleep so many times while doing it. I wanted to draw a gun after watching Appleseed(Japanese anime) a few weeks ago. I must say, it's not easy drawing a gun -__- I accidentally made this a compact version.
Thanks again for all the comments on my previous post. I am glad people like the sakura painting. I still haven't found the Moleskine Watercolor sketchbook(they are sold out everywhere!!) but I'll keep looking for it while keeping an eye on the Hand*Book Artist Journal, I doubt they carry those in stocks here in Cologne.

Nessuna...I guess that means ''nobody'' in italian or so...I would love to use that as my nickname @_@...but too many idiots sign up everywhere as nessuna or nessuno....so sad *drop*....

So this is my 2nd digital painting of my life...I so STRUGGLED with the face...first I used too soft brushes, so that the style of the face totally didnt match the hair...I had to do a new attempt on the face and I landed here....with some real flat hard brushes...
Still doesnt look like I intended to color it...

The worst was actually that I used an old sketch in pencil...so no reference for color...@_@ and I can NEVER decide which colors XD...

This is my first Moleskine drawing and it really took me a while. The Moleskine sketchbook is really not meant for watercoloring, but it's okay, the colors didn't seep through the pages too much.
I've never been to Osaka, my fiancee is there right now, and she took this amazing picture of a temple while the cherry blossom was blooming during spring time. I thought it's simply beautiful so I decided to paint it. It's not at all the same as the picture of course, and my manga style is showing again on this one. :) But it's alright, I like it. I'm going to spray a layer of clear paint onto it to preserve the color.

My 2nd EDM challenge, and I have to be honest, I rushed a little bit on this one because I just wanted to get it over with >___<
Thanks to Steven Spielberg, whenever I am near deep water(sometimes even shallow water) I'll have this picture in my head. I even believe that sharks do swim in fresh water too, and sometimes in the bathtub, most the time in the public/hotel swimming pools -___-;; (yeah yeah, laugh all you want)
Thanks over and over again for visiting and for leaving comments on my previous post, and I am so glad that everyone loves the bird. I still however need to learn to do better hair/fur/feathers, simply because it's so much fun doing it. The sharks unfortunately is hairless, and I was trying to do a bit of motives representing the ocean just to compensate a little bit on the jaws which I am terrified of. I am not expecting anyone to like this one, you're supposed to be afraid of it ^^
And yes, obviously all sharks speak German :p

This is my first EDM(Everyday Matters) challenge post YAY! And this is also the first time for me to draw a bird. I think there'll be a lot of "My 1st" for EDM since there are 200 things to draw on the list.
Again, I am still learning to do hair/fur/feather and it's been so much fun doing it actually. I did this 2 days ago but I waited until today to post it because I thought it's fair thing to do by giving my partner's last post a 2-3 days grace period. In fact that's what I'll do now, whenever she posts, even if I have a drawing done just right after that, I'll wait for 2 days :)
So tools here again very simple, still my trusty old 0.5mm HB leads from my silver mechanical pencil and bunch of erasers. But I added something else in my inventory, a 6B Faber Castell PITT pure graphite pencil stick... which made the shading a whole lot easier, as well as a color blender, which is basically a stick with folds of paper but it IS better than blending colors with your fingers hahaha. But I didn't use any stylus or empty ball-point pen for it, I used the metal tip/sleeve of my mechanical pencil to do the job.
I also bought a lot of other stuff (following some advice from Onlypencil.com) which I don't find useful in my style of sketching for now at least namely 2H and 4H woodcase pencils, stick eraser with refills(ah well, these are nice to carry around anyway), and Faber Castell Perfection Pencil Eraser(I find Kneadable erasers much more fun and precise).
And finally I bought a proper pencil case for my pencils and tools...from Eastpak(they are supposed to last until I rot to bones right?)... so I am retiring from using my Wrigley's DOUBLEMINT Chewing Gum metal box as my pencil case, they are too short for any of those pencils anyway ^^

My 2nd celebrity sketch. I am stressing a bit more on the hair this time, and I've always thought that this shot of her from the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" looks cool and sophisticated so I gave it a shot too.

Tools used are still pretty simple and limited like any other sketches I usually do, just a mechanical pencil(AG Spalding & Bros. Mini if you really want to know) with 0.5mm HB lead, typical office erasers(Maped & Pelikan) on my 8x5" Bombay large brown leather journal my fiancee bought in B&N as my Christmas present last year(which drove me very much into drawing/sketching again). That's all ^^

I took a little more time this round because being an engineer by day, and an artist wannabe at night is sometimes very exhausting. I am going to separate this piece into 4 separate stages(Final sketch, initial outline, minimal shading, detailing hair) to illustrate how the process went.

This is my 2nd attempt on digital painting using GIMP software. I am still getting used to it, and working on my 10.2" screen is starting to take a lot more effort than I'd have expected, and without dedicated zoom function on the tablet was making it harder too. But still, this didn't take me longer than 5 hours. I know that I am still very much into manga style(I am wondering when will I be able to not be influenced by that whenever I draw).

So the sketch on the front page of the presentation paper for the training I attended in Oslo 2 weeks ago was the inspiration(so much for paying attention to what the trainer was saying :Þ). I just drew it on the screen yesterday based on what I remembere because I left the paper at work anyway. I had the urge to draw dragon since 2 weeks ago I am not sure why, and I got another sketch which is almost done on my journal.

Ah well, I hope you guys enjoy this one. ^^

Just a pencil sketch of a coupla friends, took the chance to do a lot more shadings, and giving the hair some depth with each stroke(the two just to show the effects before and after). I won't show their pictures here, but it's up to them to judge. I am probably getting the hang of it though, it didn't take me longer than 2 hours at least, but then again, it's only faces ^^ I wanted to ink them at first, and then I thought they're alright just like that. I'll experiment inking with some other sketches later.

This is the final piece with Babies theme, and a sketch which I'll give to Martin(a co-worker, a great friend) as a gift celebrating his wonderful fatherhood. I used to give away all my drawings anyway, they make people happy, and that makes me happy too.
The sketch isn't at all accurate, and Philipp's got such beautiful blue eyes I got distracted all the time! And it's also the first time I'm doing an A4 size portrait sketch, and my 3rd real person sketch. It's still a long way for me to go, this one took me probably around 5hours because of the size >.<

I was so determined that this week would be "Babies Week" for me, but because of the recent 1.5 day trip to Oslo, I only managed to complete a rough but final sketch of one of my best-est ex-colleague's baby boy. The picture's taken way back in October 2008, and I have a few blurry pictures of him now, but that's how I'd imagine how much he's grown.
This is my 2nd pencil sketch on people, so Lars, if it doesn't look like him, don't use your viking sword on me ^^ I hope you like it though. It definitely took me more than 3 hours, so Lars... you know the standard rate for a manhour right? ^o^

Oh yeah... why Babies week? Tomorrow/today(March 12th) is my baby niece's 1 year old birthday. So Happy Birthday KaQin! Lots of love from Lil Uncle. :)

This is my first attempt on using digital software to draw. I spent a couple of days just trying to figure out what I was doing, and I realized that drawing free-hand on the digital canvas was the easiest for me. It took me a few hours for this one, but it was really fun learning the tools on the software I was using, GIMP. I tried Corel Painter X too, but I prefer GIMP's simiplicity I guess. I thought that I started the blog with Genma and it's been great so far, so perhaps he would make a good start for digital painting too. But this time, he doesn't look so comical anymore ^^

I will be idle for a few days now because I got a training course in Oslo(no, it's not art course.. hahaha..it's engineering stuff boohoohoo). Oh yeah, I'd like to thank Sascha for throwing his unused tablet at me, it's an old Aiptek(not those expensive Wacoms), and thanks Tanna for giving me some useful tips on using the magic wand funtion... it's really magical :p

Keeping up with the theme for this week, and the fact that the first one wasn't scary enough, so I thought I 'd add a little fright pills into this one... "28 days/weeks later" style ya know. Originally I wanted to do more than these 2 posts this week, but I was feeling a bit sick for the passed few days, but I'm alright now.
I also started experimenting these new drawing pens I bought.. very similar to the Faber Castell PITT series I believe, only that they're from Edding(again), they are cheaper, but no gray colors, or lighter browns for shading. I had to enhance a bit more with traditional water colors. The blood though was done using Edding pens. I was happy with them that's why I took an additional picture just to show how precise they could be if you want them to. I also bought some Da Vinci synthetic paint brushes, size 3/0, 0, and 4 for the water colors. They are not Winsor & Newton, but they do the job ^^

I wanted to have this as my 2nd post on this blog actually, but I didn't have proper pens for inking. So I did those I did earlier before I could concentrate on this one. I got the date wrong though, I was looking at my laptop with the Malaysian time. Anyway, it's just 2 hours away from the 1st of March 2009, so that's alright ^^

A short story about Hot Rod, yes he's an Autobot, he appeared in the movie in 1986 The Transformers : The Movie which looks somewhat like a red Lamborghini Countach with flames paint-work on the hood. In that movie he succeeded Optimus Prime when Prime was killed by Megatron (yes... Prime died T__T and he rusted immediately after that as soon as he passed the Matrix to Ultra Magnus). But everyone knows the Matrix itself chooses the next Autobot leader...teehee, obviously it wasn't Ultra Magnus, and it was Hot Rod who later unleashed the power of the Matrix, defeating Unicron and restored peace in Cybertron, and his name later became Rodimus Prime. This drawing though, is Hot Rod... not Rodimus Prime, it's when he was still young and reckless. And it's a little bit different than what you would see in the movie, because this one is from the toy itself made by Revoltech. Pencil sketch at first... And there goes the inking... And finally coloring with water color and touching up with just color pencils. The wrinkles on the paper was caused by the water. Drawing paper with good quality usually doesn't do that -_- Ah well!

I don't really have to submit anything until the end of next week, but a lot of ideas just came into my head recently, and I've completed some, and 2-3 more in the way. I also started sketching on my 8 x 5.5" journal with leather cover(a wonderful Christmas present!) and tons of pages. So if you see the background isn't white enough, because it is isn't ^^ It's kinda yellowish beige, but I like it. It seems like aged papers and that makes it looks very special.

I "borrowed" a friend's pose and use it for my new Rogue character. She's supposed to look mechanically precise and emotionless when in action, except probably her hair. I hope that doesn't disappoint.

And earlier Jason requested me to draw something for him so that he could use it as his profile picture on his blog. I agreed and I think he liked it because he IS using it as his profile picture on his blog right now.

I was trying to take a nap yesterday after work but I couldn't, and so I was thinking what to draw and this is what I came out with 2 hours after that.

It's not completed yet, I think I still need to add an animal to it, and then inking it. Hopefully those will be done by this weekend. I am not planning to color this one unless I really like the character and start making more of her. ^o^

It's just a pencil sketch of Genma. A friend of mine was wearing a T-shirt with Panda on it... I could only think of Ranma 1/2 characters ^^ The picture is a bit grainy because I took the picture using high-sensitivity mode without flash at night.
